Insights Of An Artist's Journey

Hi Reader 👋🏻

Welcome to another issue of Insights Of An Artist's Journey!

Here are today's topics:

  • 📕 Every aspiring music creators should read these books
  • 🎧 2 music discoveries of the week
  • 🎶 New free sample pack by Stickz
  • 💸 Live masterclass to build your music biz

Let's jump in!

These books will give you the equivalent of a PhD! 👇🏻

I know, books are probably not your favourite "medium" but...

they are still the best source of information on the planet.

The amount of knowledge you get from them is not comparable to YouTube videos.

And the way you digest a book (compared to binge watching videos) often leads to better results.

So here are the 7 books that had the most impact on me to go full-time with my music business online:

(P.S: If you would like to go straight to the full list of books I recommend and order some for yourself, you can click here)

1 | Steal Like An Artist ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

First off, this book is a classic and a basics for every artists out there. It is especially great to translate its learnings into idea generation.

There is this misconception that everything we publish must be unique, original and new. But nothing is fully new at this point. Everything is a combination of references and inspiration, like we do when producing music.

2 | Superfans ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This book is SO applicable to us music artists. Our goal is to grow our fanbase, which is literally what this book is about.

On top of that, this one is very practical as he gives exact actions and exercises to do at the end of each chapter.

One of the best book I ever read! 10/10.

3 | StoryWorthy ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Everything starts with a story. Want to promote a song? Tell a story about it. Want to make a sale? Attach a story to your product. Want to grow your audience? Tell your story.

This book structures exactly what you need to learn the art of storytelling in order to captivate your audience's attention.

4 | The One Thing ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

As creative people, we often struggle with focus. We start too many ideas, projects, have too many ambitions and as a result, we don't achieve or finish any of them. If that sounds familiar, this book will open a whole new perspective for yourself - it did for me!

5 | $100M offers ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

A great book by Alex Hormozi, and the one you should (probably) read first. This is a great introduction to creating offers that are so good that people can't say no to them.

Promoting yourself is hard so if you get yourself to do it, might as well making sure that people are actually going to convert and decide to buy your sample packs right? This book will teach you how to do it in a digestible manner.

6 | DotCom Secrets ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

No idea why this book doesn't cost more than that... it is a MASTERCLASS on online business marketing and sales funnels!

If you're trying to sell anything around your music like digital products, courses or coaching, this is THE book you should read right after $100M offers. Granted, it might be a bit complex at first as it goes in depth on the topic but it's worth the effort (literally as it'll make you thousands).

7 | The Compound Effect ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Finally, THE book that finally got me to understand success is long game. This is the book I read a few months before starting this PLV Music project and without it, I wouldn't be here today.

It revolves around the idea of 1% better every day and put me in the right mindset to embark on this long journey.

In Summary

Yes, YouTube videos are great!

But if you want a comprehensive and structured way of learning skills you will need to build your music business online,

Books are still the best way to do so.

Here are the 7 books I recommend you start with:

  • Steal like an artist (for idea generation)
  • Superfans (for growing your fanbase)
  • StoryWorthy (for storytelling)
  • The One Thing (for focus)
  • $100M offers (to create offers no one can say no to)
  • Dotcom Secrets (to learn about sales funnels)
  • The compound effect (to understand the power of small decisions)

I hope these books will be helpful for you and your music business 😉

🎶 | Music Discoveries Of The Week

Disguise - Ryos
Nothing better than an EDM banger to start off the week! Ryos (which is a music producer and YouTube), just released this new track, which is quite different from what he usually releases. He described his song as "big room techno" and I can testify: it hits hard!!!!

Test Drive (Epic Theme) - How To Train Your Dragon
I agree, the original is already epic, but I have to admit that he took it to the next level and make it even more epic, motivational and inspiring. If you need a nice instrumental background music to motivate you this week, this should do it!

❤️ | My Favourite Resources For Music Artists

📁 NEW Free Beta Pack by Stickz [Sample pack]

Stickz is one of the best websites I know of for sample and preset packs. I use them myself a lot!

But they also have a bunch of free packs to download.

Last week, they released a beta version of their new sample pack called ASHES, which includes 290+ samples!!!

If you do any type of melodic bass music, this pack is for you!

💸 Build Your Music Biz [Live Masterclass]

Seids is another female producer singer-songwriter who also makes content about music business.

She did a talk at NAMM 2024 and released the whole hour video on her YouTube Channel.

If it's something that interests you, you will get a good amount of information to get started! 😉

Person's hands play an antique piano.

Hey Reader, Something funny happened last week that left me thinking about marketing—and how most musicians get it completely backward. I was explaining to my fiance how my scale is showing me the amount of body weight, muscle mass etc. He then asked me:“How does that scale work exactly?” His question stunned me a little. I paused and replied:“I actually don’t know...” We laughed about it, but then it got me thinking 🤔 I couldn't care less about how the scale works. All I care about is the...

INSIGHTS OF AN ARTIST'S JOURNEY May 13th, 2025 Why “listen to your audience” is the worst advice 🙈 Hey Reader, Early in my journey as a music creator, I kept hearing the same advice: “Just listen to your audience.” So I did. I posted what they asked for. I followed every comment, suggestion, and DM like it was gospel. At first, it felt great - views went up, followers trickled in, and I thought, “I’m doing something right!” But then something strange happened… Despite all the growth, my...
